The proposed residential development in Cork South Docks features 190 modern apartments within a single, carefully designed urban block. It includes a range of amenities, such as shared communal spaces, public open areas, a crèche, restaurant, café, and retail outlets, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive environment. Moreover, the project seamlessly integrates with the surrounding residential area while extending the vibrancy of Cork City Centre.
To honor the area’s history and future potential, the masterplan incorporates elements from earlier studies and proposals. Additionally, it acknowledges the nearby SHD scheme on the Former Ford Factory site, extending the existing urban block structure eastward. This approach creates a cohesive and well-integrated neighborhood.
Connectivity and inclusivity are prioritized throughout the design. The development promotes pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly routes, enhanced public transport links, and inclusive design principles. Furthermore, a new local center is planned for the eastern section of the site, which will connect seamlessly to a future Light Rail stop. The balanced mix of residential units, commercial spaces, and community amenities ensures a dynamic and functional space for all.
The project also emphasizes sustainability through several innovative features. For instance, it integrates renewable energy systems, rainwater harvesting, and smart technology to improve efficiency and reduce its environmental footprint. Finally, the design ensures adaptability, allowing the development to remain resilient and responsive to future changes and needs.
